Trying to get everything working again on my 70 model 135. Dash lights didn't work, and after installing a new light switch they came on for about a minute then went off. I checked with the local massey dealer about getting a new "power supply" or "inverter". The inverter and dash light harness has been obsoleted. Looks like the only thing the inverter works is the dash lights. The only thing I can think of is the dash lights must work off a different voltage, possibly AC or pulsating DC? What is the inverter doing? Anyone know what the working voltage is for the dash lights? Can I rewire them and get them to work off 12 volts DC? Thanks, Bill

The dash lights on the MF '100' series are pretty special stuff.

They are 'fluorescent', powered by that high - voltage power supply under the dash.

Try touching one of the wires to the the gauges and you'll find out! Don't ask how I know this. (grin)

I don't know if those particular parts are still available, but if you don't mind changing gauges, SW gauges should fit right in, (except for the tach)and use standard 12V for illumination.

Still, those original lights are pretty cool sometimes I'll get on the tractor out in the barn and turn them on just to admire the design.

Massey gauge lighting had some fancy name like luminescene(sp) and used a converter that put out something like 2000 volts. I'm sure you can still get the converter. If your Massey dealer can't help you, try a Dodge dealer, some of the 60,s Chargers and Challangers used the same setup. Hope this helps.

I may be wrong on this ,but I thought I read somewhere that the dash lights were a type of neon which will only operate on A/C at high voltage. This inverter maybe a ballast of some type that steps up output voltage.I have a '66 MF135 diesel and there is a "humming" noise that is emitted, like a ballast, from this box.I too would be interested in what we actually have.

Were the 135's the first to have dash lights or were they used in the 2 digit series, ie. MF 50, MF65, etc?

I have a MF135, 65 model and would like to replace all of the dash gauges, with the exception of the tach. Any feed back on where I can get the gagues. The original ones where lighted. I assume that is the dash lights you guys are talking about. By the way Bill, I live in TN also.
