I have been looking for a utility tractor something like the MF 35. An ad was just listed on this page (non-photo) for a MF 135 "Vineyard" (gas).

Does anyone know, or can you point me to a source, for figuring out what all the special features of the "Vineyard" model were?

Also, was there a single gas engine used in these? Any special reputation -- especially for easy starting after periods without use?

Thanks very much.

Bob

There were two gas engines used according to vintage. A 4 cylinder Continental Z145 or Z134 before 1969, a 3 cylinder Perkins after that.

With care I know the Continental starts after being ignored, though any carburetor can gum up and any condenser can go bad from moisture.

As I recall my owner's manual and parts book the Vineyard tractor has a different front axle and maybe different rear wheels and tires.

As far as I can tell all MF-135 had outboard dry drum brakes.

Mike:

I see the turning radius advantage of a swept-back front axel. Is there any advantage/disadvantage to drum vs. inboard brakes (I have worked on auto drum brakes but have no idea what the "inboard" configuration entails.)

Thanks for your help.

Bob,inboard brakes are inside the rearend housing on the real late models they even run in oil-look at the back of rearend housing notches in the plates means oil brakes-no notches no oil ,oil is better.drum brakes easy to change-work ok. inboard brakes hard to service but are much tuffer. mike@mrtractor.com

My MF-135 Deluxe has drum brakes outboard, the wheels bolt to the drums. I'll have to go study the parts book. I'd not noticed inboard brakes in the 135.
