My Father bought a Massey Harris Tractor use and we would like to know how to find out the model of the Tractor.

The tin plate with the model number and serial number is obviously off the tractor. The serial number will be hand stamped into the top of the transmission/differential case on the machined surface between the shift lever platform and the steel plate that bolts down over the differential. It will be on the clutch side and you'll have to do some scraping and wire-brushing to get all the old paint and crud off to find the number but it will be there. Once you have the number, post it here and somebody will ID the model number. I'm not sure if the model number is stamped in before the actual serial number.

The model number is in front of the serial number. They read 44GR4685.

That would be a 1948 model, the G stands for Gas engine and the R stands for Rowcrop (narrow front). Lots of 44's up here but mostly wide fronts, you'd seldom see a narrow fronted tractor from that era.

You know, I realized that after I made the post since I looked again and saw that I wasn't responding to the original guy who asked the question. Felt kinda silly after hitting the button, but it was a good example.
