I've searched for info on what kind of gear oil for manual steering MF TO-35. On the Ford N site 90 wt gear oil or grease seems to be what they use on Fords. I plan on sucking the old oil out and think that 90 weight will be what I will use unless my fellow MF users tell me different. I also read that after filling the steering box through the bum that some pour more gear oil down the stering tube. Is this adviseable? Does anyone know where to get the collar that goes underneath the steeing wheel and over the steering tube? I deformed the bottom of mine where the rubber grommet goes getting the steering wheel off( stubborn Son of a Gun)!!! Thanks.

A.D.;
My TO-35 manual calls for 90w straight mineral
oil, same as what goes into the tranny/diff. The
I&T manual for the 35 shows the oil filled to the
top screws of the power rack cover; these are the
4 hex head screws fastening the cover to the
housing- 2 top, 2 bottom. I'm not sure what is
meant by filling through the steering tube. My
TO-35 is power assisted and the steering shaft
assy. has a seal inside that would prevent oil
from going down (or up!). Besides, this seal (in
mine) is holding power steering fluid, not gear
oil. Try salvage yards for a replacement collar.
Having access to a service manual has been
indispensible for me. Hope this helps.

Again I quote my MF35 instruction manual:
Transmission/rear end and steering:
Straight mineral oil SAE40
Collar bearing:(below steering wheel) std. grease.
