I have a 165 diesel noticed the pto doesn't stop
with the clutch pushed down.I put the clutch pin
in the top hole to give it more movement, but it
still doesn't stop.I hooked it to a pto alternator
it would keep running until I moved the pto
lever foreward. It goes in and out of gear easily
without any grind.I thought it had a two stage
clutch, but only stops when the pto lever is foreward. Is my clutch bad? Thanks.

are you sure that your massey doesn't have a hydraulic pto? In my mf 168 there is only a hydraulic lever, when pushed into forward position the pto engages.

Look down by your PTO lever. If it has written in the casting "engine" and "ground", then you have a two stage clutch with live PTO. It is supposed to stop if you push the clutch down all the way down. If there are a couple of hydraulic hoses coming out of the transmisson housing down by the PTO lever, then you have the fully independent PTO. The only way to shut it off is to move the PTO lever. Most of the 165's had the two stage clutch.

Thanks, guys I've got the two hydraulic lines,
and it doesn't say ground or engine.Just got
this thing, and a massey mechanic said the pto
was out.The owners manual list only a two stage
clutch.
