I remember a couple years ago seeing messages about a stuck shifter on a 135. Now I'm having problems and I'm looking for a fix. It hasn't happened with me yet but my brother-in-law has had the shifter "lock up" in neutral with the transmission in gear; once in reverse and once in first. We've worked it out both times by accessing the gears through the oil fill opening but I'm wondering what's causing it. Can you help with an explanation/fix?
Thanks,
Jeff

I've had four Massey's, they all had that problem. I blamed it on worn shifting forks. I had a 35 with a loader on it that was real bad, traded it for a 275 and loader and it soon got that way. Put the loader on a 255 and traded the tractor for a John Deere and solved the problem for a while. I use the 255 every day to feed silage from a bunk silo along with rounds bales of hay to the cattle so it goes in and out of reverse probably 50 times or more a day. The 255 started locking up about 6 weeks ago. The 255 has 9550 hrs on it so I feel too bad. The little MF 35 we use to rake hay with locks up occasionally but there is little shifting while raking so I don't worry about it either

I have locked my 50 once, also my neighbors 275.It seems to happen when the operator inadvertently pulls up on the gearlever, they have a little play in them, built that way!I added 4" to the lever on my 50,and i make sure not to pull up on it while shifting, haven't locked it in 10 years.

Do you have a multi-power transmission ? Are you trying to shift when it is in 'high'?

I usually make sure mine is in 'low' before I shift... just lots easier on things.

I have come accross that problem on a number of ocations,What i have done is to remove the stick and you will find that the bottom has worn where it fits into the selectors.Have the bottom of the stick built up whith weld. That will sort ur problem out for a wile.
