I just got a MF135 (parts guy told me it's actually a 2135- industrial version of the 135). It's the first tractor I have owned so I am not used to trouble-shooting yet. The tractor was running fine for several hours and then it just cut off on me. A friend suggested using starting fluid and after 3-4 shots of that and him working the primer lever on the fuel pump the engine started and ran great. The next day it started and ran fine and then cut off again. I don't want to keep using the starting fluid, it sounds like it's hard on the engine. I have checked the fuel shutoff lever and there is fuel at the injector pump. Any ideas on whats going on? Thanks for any advice, Alan

Thanks for the advice. The transfer/lift pump was the problem. Replaced it along with fuel filters and 0-rings, bled the system and it started up and ran great. Definite difference in the performance too, apparently the pump was about shot when I got the tractor. Thanks again for all the help!

My 135 perkins diesel done the same to me, although I could not get it restarted. Inside my fuel tank, on top of the cut off valve is a strainer made of screen material. Sounds like yours is almost stopped up. Do not discard this, and do not blow material back up into tank, even though this will clear screen for some time. Take it out and clean it up. It will bite you again if you do not. Might be a good time to clean out tank. Cost me 86 dollars to find this strainer.

I would bleed the entire system after changing the fuel filters. Start at the filters, then bleed the injector pump then each injector.

Sounds like it could be the fuel filters. Try to avoid the starting fluid, it is hard on the engine.

several things could be your trouble. with it running as long as it did ,check the fuel cap to make sure its vented as if its not it will not let it have air in the tank and it will vapor lock. next see if fuel will free flow from the tank to the transfer pump, some pumps have a screen in them that can stop up. then check the filters. if fuel is getting past the filters, see if the return line isnt stopped up or pinched as this will cause this style injection pump to "smother out".if there is a leak between the tank and the transfer pump , air can be sucked in and cause it to quit. if all is well the transfer pump may be on its last leg. good luck, david
