I have a 44 Massey Harris that I want to make into a pulling tractor. A friend of mine says he has found a couple of 44 Massey propane parts tractors. These tractors are not complete, only one has an engine. What I'm wondering is , what is the difference between the regular gas and propane model? Is the higher compression from the head or pistons? If it's in the head is there a casting number I can check to see if it's a propane head? Propane tractors weren't real popular around here so I'm wondering if it's factory or a tractor that someone just converted to propane. Thanks.

I have a 44 special with factory propane. I am, however, not certain about the head differences. Just what I hear. I believe that the compression is higher and when I took the head to the machine shop for work, they were not real thrilled with grinding the valves. Supposedly they are sodium filled. I will be glad to look for casting numbers for you if you think it will help
