Perkins diesel - no sump?

When I was changing the oil for the first time on my MF35 Perkins diesel and went to pull and clean the sump, I couldn't find it! On the bottom of the crankcase where the manual shows it should be, there is nothing but a slightly raised circular area about 5-6" in diameter, but no removable plate or anything that looks like what is shown in the manual. It looks like that's where it should have been, but like the hole was never opened and the sump never installed. Am I looking in the wrong place? This is my first tractor and I've only had it a few months, so I'm a real newbie at this, so could just be looking in the wrong place, but the bottom of the crankcase seems to be pretty unmistakable.

This is a 1964 MF35 Deluxe according to its serial number. It is a 3 cylinder diesel that I assumed was the Perkins according to various discussions here and elsewhere. Were there Perkins diesels made without a sump, or is this some other diesel engine? Any thoughts from you MF experts? Big Dean? Others?

Incidentally, my browser isn't finding Big Dean's page...has it moved recently?

Thanks all!

First time I read Chuck's post I didn't follow it but while looking at my FE35 Iit dawned on me what he was asking about. On the 4 cylinder engine there is an oval removable plate on the left hand side of the sump. I guess (some of?) the 3 cylinder engines perhaps don't have it.

Just for the archive, here's Big Dean's reply by e-mail:

The only tractors that I know of with a removable plate is the old Ferguson TO20 I never saw one on either of the engines gas or diesel on anything else what manual are you using. The only way you can clean out the sump is by removing the complete oil pan.

I'm using the MF35 Diesel manual I bought here on YT.

He also sent a followup that his new web page is at http://hometown.aol.com/bigdean62/index.html.
