I stopped and gave a diesel MF 165 a quick once over in the rain today. The most glaring problem at a glance was the PTO lever had been broken off at some point, and a lever was fashioned out of a screwdriver and welded on in its place.

If I purchase this tractor how much am I looking at for parts to replace the lever, and how involved is the replacement procedure?

The tractor shows around 3600 hours on the proofmeter, and they are asking $3300 for it. I plan to go back and take a much closer inspection tomorrow.

I think you could get a used PTO lever from a tractor salvage yard for not much money. Only a couple of bolts to remove. Not too bad of a job unless their really froze on.
$3,300 is a cheap price for a 165 Diesel, unless its totally beat up.

That seems pretty cheap for that tractor in good condition. I'd leave the screwdriver on it myself. Most of my tractors have a pair of vise grips as a lever some where. It will take a little work to replace it, I believe you'd have to pull off the top of the trans. to get it fixed. Might be a good time to check out the guts though.

Thanks guys. The old gal starts and runs well. The clutch needs some adjusting, as it does some grinding when shifting and the clutch has to be pushed way in to get it to that point. It also is in bad need of brakes on the left side, as they are not catching at all.
