Can anyone help ? When I push the gear lever forward to engage the starter, nothing happens. This model does NOT have the safety heel switch. I now have to start it using a screwdriver across the starter solenoid.

Had the same problem easy fixed.under the battery on top of trans case.Is the solinoid where you remove the top where your wiring points are. under this is a brass ignition button clean this and the two bush's so you have a clean conection.
It should turn now if they were dirty and corroded.

Brian, I'm a bit puzzled by your question. You say that your TEA does not have the heel starter switch - it shouldnt have, as far as I'm aware the heel switch was only fitted to the TEF (diesel) model. You should have a solenoid mounted beneath the battery holder on top of the bellhousing this is connected internally to the gear lever. First try checking all the electrical connections - are they tight and clean. If these are OK I would then replace the solenoid.
Hope this helps, good luck,
Peter.
