My PTO has been jumping out of gear occasionally when bush-hogging. It's not independant PTO. Pulled a tedder in the bermuda hayfield and the problem seems to be getting worse. I pulled on the PTO shaft, and it moves in and out about 1/4" or so. When I got the tractor the PTO shift lever was loose, had a nail in it, like Big Dean's article mentioned. I fixed that. Can anyone tell me what the most likely cause is, and how to fix it? Thanks.

Stan sounds like one of the snap rings on the PTO shaft has maybe pop off or as Wendell says it could be the bearing. If your implement PTO shaft is not telescoping free they will try to push the tractor PTO shaft in as they are raised a lower this will cause one of the snap rings pop out of the groove the PTO moving in & out will work it out of gear. If you need more Info on this Email me
