I'm looking at buying a Massey Ferguson 202 Industrial tractor with a front loader and 3 pt hitch and pto. The pto is not live but has an ratcheting hub. From what I understand about how this works it seems like I would not be able to use this for a post hole digger that is lifted by the 3 point hitch and powered by the pto shaft (since the pto turns only when the tractor is moving) Is this correct ? and is there any way to convert this to a live pto or a way to rig it to work like one ? I want this tractor for rough mowing (I have a 5 ft rotary mower - 3 pt/pto driven) and clearing snow from my driveway but had thought about using other 3pt/pto driven implements in the future (post hole auger, tiller) and wonder how the lack of a live pto will limit me ? Thank you in advance for any advice, Bill W.

I have a 202 ind and my pto works at the switch of the lever. If I rem correctly it ran no matter what till the lever was switched off. Sitting on the tractor to the left side. I cannot figure how to raise the 3pt arms and I think I need the correct links for it.But pto is live.

Not all MF 202's had ind PTO. You would be able to use it for post hole auger simply by placing trans in neutral and engaging PTO. Rototilling may be another problem as speed of tractor probably is to great to allow tiller to work properly. I think you would have to change Trans. to a dual clutch if you want live PTO that could be expensive. Rotary mowing is quite do-able and it sounds like it has been used for that purpose as the ratcheting hub (overrunning clutch)would be the correct arrangement if tractor was being used for this purpose.
Guess it comes down to how important Live PTO is.
You could always have 2 tractors! :)
