Last night I just finished re-wiring the headlights on my 165, and WOW. It's really amazing the difference that new headlights make on that little tractor. Used to only have one eye, because the left fender(the one with the work light and flasher) didn't have a proper ground due to it getting ripped off 8 years ago by the tire chain. I had the fender fixed about 5 years ago, but never did the headlights. 2 years later I put new wiring to that fender without any success getting the lights to work, so I gave up. Just recently I had some time on my hands, so I went to the store and bought some more wire, a rear work light, 2 flashers (gonna mount one on the other fender yet), and a light bulb. After running a direct gound from the battery to the back of the bulbs, I got 3 eyes. The next day I spent about 5 hours trying to get the new flasher working, replacing the toggle switch and flasher fuse, playing with my ground wire and such many times. I decided to take a break from that to mount the new work light. I bent up a 2 1/2' peice of flat stock, bolted it to the fender and mounted the light. Ran the new wireing right from the original back bulb that no longer works, played a little more with the ground and I got that working. Now I was happy as a pig in $hit. After one more attempt on the flasher, I got that to ground, so I had that fender fully functioning. Yesterday I ran to the bone yard and got a new cup assembly for the other side that was missing, put that in and voila. Good as new, don't even feel bad to say it's better than what my 285 has. I'm so happy right now, I just had to share with someone.

Hey Don, I'm interested in what you are doing with flashers. My 165 doesn't have any and I think that I'd like to add some. Tell me more about what you are doing and what you used.

Clark

I went to fleet farm and bought 2 tail/flashers. On the left fender there is the rear work/road light that Willy mentioned. On mine, the red light inside the worklight(actually a small bulb outside the halgen, halogen has a transparent red coating on the outside) On the back of that light is a on/off/on toggle switch, to turn on either the work light or the road/flasher combo. The bulb behind the halogen is connected to the direct current, before it goes to the flasher fuse also in the housing. After the flasher fuse it just goes up to the fender. One thing to do is make sure that you have a good ground on your fender, or you will spend hours trying to figure out why it isn't working. On my 165, the rear halogen bulb had the prongs broke off where the wires screw on the back, so I just put on a new worklight, mounted it about 18" above the fender, just so it is shining down on the implement instead of right at it. It should be better for unloading chopper boxes. My dad did that to our 285 a few years back when the same thing happened to it's original worklight, and it is better because when hauling manure, the light shines over the front of the spreader and you can see what's going on inside the spreader a little easier. On a side note, I thought that the 165's and similar models came with atleast 1 flasher on the fender, atleast that's the way I've always seen them. Mine had a flasher on it before, but it broke off when the tire chain tore it off. (the fender nailed me in the head then landed in my lap, I'm pretty damn lucky from that incident, all I got was a really big goose-egg on my forehead and a throbbing headache) Now I just gotta mount the other flasher on the other side where there never was one, and splice into the wire for the other flasher. Should be really nice when it's all done.

When I bought my Massey 135 It came with 4 Original Head lights and 2 of them were the flasing Rear tail/work lights. They have a work light sealed beam that has a red area the flashing bulb inside the housing sits behind, the sealed beam and when you switch it to tail light it turns the sealed beam red instead of white. I disconected the flasher and use it for a tail light instead when needed on the road and a work light when I need light. I still have a extra one get ahold of me. Mark
