I just bought a 44 massey LPG, and am kind of confused. the tractor is a complete unit, all the LPG plumbing is on it, and the fade of the paint over the entire tractor is the same, but the serial number on the frame is 44 GR 23296. the figures dont add up, according to the serial numbers on this website, the LP version didnt come out until 1952 with the numbers starting at 1001. the serial numbers on the frame would make the tractor a 1951. I know it is possible that someone somewhere along the line could have put the LPG parts on a gas 44. I am hoping that this is not the case. Is it possible that they started production in 1951 and put the LPG parts on those tractors??? any info on this would be great

My uncle had a 44 LP wide front that I believe he bought new. It was a 1952. He lived near Oregon, Wisconsin. It was sold at an auction around 1968 and I have heard it is still in northern Wisconsin. It was a great tractor. I attend many shows and have never seen another one.

My book says there were 35 LP Standards and 460 row-crops made. Total production run was in the neighbor of 495 LPs made only in 1952. What is the production number on it? That will tell whether it was put together from other tractors or not. Want to sell it!?!?!? :>)

Prior to 1980, detailed statistics are rare or
just inaccurate. Once they got data discs and
their office computers, you could often find out
exact date of production and original purchase
date. Any information on fifty year old 44's is
mostly estimate, with facts,rumors,disputes, all
entangled. Unless your relatives bought it new, the factory WFE could have been added in 1998.
Someone buys 2 or 3 parts tractors at auctions,
then 'builds' one. Good luck.
