I was wondering what size turning plow the 165 [gas burner] was rated to pull? I know that it was a 3 plow, but was it 3 - 14s or 3 - 16s? Also what would be the best plow for this tractor, make & model?

Some people only plow about 4 inches deep. If you put it in the ground about 7 or 8 inches deep, you will be loaded with 2 16" plows in average soil.

The 165 was rated to pull a 4 bottom 14" plow.We farm in north Missouri and the 4 14" semi mounted was a real load on our clay hills. We now have a 3 16" mounted but only use it to plow the garden. Our 175 was rated a 5 14" but we pulled a 4 16" semi -mounted, it was hard to keep the front end down, have plowed 1/4 mile with the front wheels off ground.Only plowing done in our area is terraces now.

It all depends what type of soil your are plowing, but remember that a gasser is rated at forty some HP. Comparing it to a 180 is a bit harsh, 20 HP difference is alot. And the 180 came on 38 inch tires,"more traction to start with". I know our diesel 165 came on 28 inch tires but I don't know about the gasser. You might want to borrough a plow to see what you can do with your tractor. My opinion is the gasser is good for a 2 furrow.

Where do you live? My 165 can only handle a 2-14 plow, up here near Green Bay in NE Wisconsin. Once I finally manage to get it shined up it might be better but i dunno.

Fred must live in sand country. I also live in northern WI with heavy clay soils. My 165 Diesel is really working with a 2-14 plow on it. You might be able to pull a 3-14 plow in heavy clay, but you'd have to be in low gear to do it.
