I have been asked to clean up and paint a Massey Harris 44 by a community member in my Ag mechanics class. I need some help with details. The serial # is 44GR 30753. My hotline books do not mention a prefix 44 GR. Is this a 44 row crop? What year is it? The owner seems to think the engine was originally a bronze color. Is this right? Does any one have a suggestion on where to purchase paint. We have a local NAPA that sells Martin Senior and a body shop that sells ICI. Paint #'s? This will be a little different for my students we are used to the old JD's and Farmalls. I have been teaching 28 years and this is my first Massey Harris job. Thanks in advance.

Please, this is not about a mh44 but I am requesting any information on a massey ferguson 590 diesel if there is or was such. I have a friend who has an aunt in Mo. and he says she has a 590 for sell. It is in great shape except it is weathered and she has 2 new rear tires for it and wants $3000.00 for it. If anyone has any information or comments on this please let me know. Thanks Lloyd the old muleskinner.

Marlowe, what is your source? I am beginning to doubt mine. I have discovered a couple of discrepancies recently. My source shows that serial number was a Row Crop, circa 1951. I would be interested in any web sites with the information. I am new in the tractor business and enjoy all of the information on this site and others.
Thanks, C. T.

Yes, the five # S/N is a '51 model, row crop
gas. Marlowe is correct about the engine colors.
Exception being the 100th Anniversary, 1947, when
the engines were black. Most repaints ended up with red engines, to save time. Only restoration has brought back detail, like one year of black
engines. Those Triple 3 & 4 paint schemes were the absolute best: red, straw yellow, bronze, silver,
black. A sharp tractor, always catches your eye.
