My 1972 MF 175D has unfortunately been sitting out
in the (wet) weather for about 3 months without
use. I cleared out the barn to put it in for the
winter and found the clutch would not disengage.

The clutch pedal has a good spring feel and looks
to be adjusted correctly according to "the book."
I think the clutch and pressure plate are stuck.
There looks to be an access plate on the bottom of
the bellhousing and before I go squirting all
kinds of penetrant on it I would like any comments
on how I should go about this before I ruin my
day. Thanks for all your help!

Bob

You can use the breaks while the clutch is depressed. That may break it free.

It sounds like what I had last week. There is a post on the third page, November 7, that solved my stuck clutch.

Worked for me.

boiling hot soapy water poured over clutch will do it, not ruin anything. Remove starter and funnel hotest soapy water you can get, into clutch. Might not even need the soap.

I had a Ford Van once that did the same thing. Sat up for a while then the clutch stuck. After talking to a friend, I used a metal bar and depressed the clutch pedal and let it sit for a couple of days. I just depressed the pedal with one end and held it down by wedging the other end of the bar against the drivers seat. That worked, and I cranked the engine before removing the metal bar a couple days later. Evidently the disc and friction plate seperated under its own spring pressure. Also I recently installed a new clutch in my MF-35, it is a dual clutch with live pto. I beleive it could be un-stuck by using the same method based on the way it is assembled. There is an inspection plate underneath my MF-35 clutch also but I wouldn't recomend spraying anything in there. Solvents may do more damage and then you may have to replace it when it begins to slip.
