My 1955 Pacer is running now. If I start the engine with gear box in nuetral and without the clutch pedal depressed the clutch will not disingage from the flywheel. This is expected. If I depress the clutch pedal, the clutch still will not disengaged from the fly wheel. This is not expected. Only sequence I can use is to start the tractor with the clutch depressed while in any gear. I can then shift without grinding gears. When I release the clutch pedal, the tractor moves, no problem - all gears. I can then depress the clutch, the clutch disengages from the flywheel and I am able to shift. Question is... why won't the clutch disengage from the fly wheel after starting in Nuetral whne clutch pedal is depressed? Clutch & trowout bearing is new. Flywheel resurfaced. Pressure plate cleaned and polished w/emery cloth.
Thanks, Bob

I can think of two things. The clutch may be a little out of adjustment. The rule of thumb is to have about an inch of free play in the pedal between the point where the clutch is fully engaged (foot off the pedal) and when you start to put pressure on the throwout bearing. If you have more free play than this, it is possible that the clutch will not fully disengage when the cluch pedal is fully depressed. One other little thing that might help is to have a little grease on the shaft where the throwout bearing travels. If the bearing binds a bit on the shaft, it may not travel as far as it needs to to fully disengage the clutch while it is turning. Good Luck! Let me know how it turns out.

i have the same problem with my 22.. what i do is when i park it in the shed for the day i press the clutch pedal and tie the pedal down so it is away from the fly wheel and that solves my problems it gets better as it gets wore in
