My MF50 is has indirect diesel Perkins A3-152. Looking at the manuals, it appears that if I turn the key left, counter clockwise, that activates the thermo-start deal and then continue further to the left, the engine will turn-over for starting. My switch appears to have been replaced and the switch decal is not there anymore either. My switch turns both left and right, but there is no detent (like an "acc" on a car) in either direction. Therefore, it seems to me that I might not have the "thermo-start" in the left direction.

How is your switch arrangement?

Further, it would seem to me that the switch in the right, clockwise, would have an "acc" detent such that one could operate the lights w/o operating the engine.

Lastly, the key is the same as that of a Ford 3000 tractor. Did Massey and Ford use the same key?

Thanks!
Bill

Bill, I have a M/F 50 with a AD3-152 diesel. I do not have a ACC position on my switch either. I turn the key counterclockwise and hold it for app. 10-15 seconds, which would be the glow plug position and then I turn the key clockwise to start it. There is no ACC position going either way. The only purpose for my switch is to heat the glow plugs and start the tractor. You pull the fuel shut off to shut her down. I do not how your tractor is set up but I would bet you do have a preheat if you turn the key counter-clockwise. The lights on my machine are live all the time. It does not need an ACC position on the key for this. Lastly I lost my key one day and as you said a key from the New-Holland Ford group of machinery works perfect..... ..... Scott
