Per my owners manual instruction, I removed the oil sump screen assy for cleaning and found it about completely detached from the plate onto which it sits. It is hanging on at one spot.My question is - what is the function of this screen and is it necessary when there is also an oil filter? In what kind of shape is your screen assy and do you service it everytime you change oil? BTW, my engine is a Perkins A3-152 indirect diesel. I am trying to order a new screen assy, however, MF no longer lists it - so the dealer is trying Perkins. In the mean time, is it advisable to simply remove the screen and reassemble the thing until I can get a new assy or should I wait? On another note, I found Shell Rotella 15W-40 and plan on using that oil. Shell makes the Rotella in a 10W-30, however, in my neck of the woods, nobody carries it, hence the 15W-40 - which I think a good compromise given our range of temperatures. Thanks much for all of your help! Bill
