I am looking at a 1982 35 deisel. I spent a lot of time in the seat of a 1966 135 when I was in high shcool and I always thought the difference was 35 was gas and 135 was desel. Where did I go wrong? Also I have heard there is more than one engine used in the deisels. Any info about which is best?

Sorry - forgot question 2...

The MF-35 diesel came in two versions.: Standard Motors 23C (4cyl) and Perkins A3-152 (3cyl).
The 23C is a strong workhorse, but a pain in the b... to start, especially in cold weather.
The A3-152 is a gem.. always starts, even when very cold, and it will give you hours and hours of troublefree operation. Just be careful to check oil and coolant before attempting to start it. (My A3-152 is a little hard on the lube oil, tolerances getting a little too liberal).

Simple question, simple answer.
The 135 is the successor of the 35.
>1964: fe/mf/to 35, diesel or gas
1964> mf 135, diesel or gas

135 also has uprated AD3.152 direct injection engine which produces about 45 hp. My understanding (and please correct me if I'm wrong, anyone) is that A3.152 fitted to 35 is indirect injection and produces less horsepower (about 37?) MF35x spans the gap and has the uprated AD3.152 45hp engine but with 35 styling. I have a restored FE35 wth Standard 4cylinder 23c engine which I love dearly but for use as a working tractor I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole if I could get a 35x or 135 instead. The 3 cylinder engine is excellent and is used in everything from boats to air compressors.
