I'm looking at a 1085. The tractor looks rough, but sheet metal is good, tires bad, runs good, dealer says 3 pt. is weak. I haven't tried the three point out on anything yet. The dealer claims there is an adjustment inside the tractor for the hydraulic presure that is set wrong making the 3 pt. weak. Is this possible or is it likely he is pulling my leg. What might it cost to repair the three point. The hour meter has 5000 hrs. I assume it is right but not sure. What is a rough figure of the value of this tractor . Thanks

I like Massey but my least favorite is the 1080 1085 . They are noted for weak rearends and hyd. Have you ever looked at a 65 next to a 1080 not much diff in the rear. Most of them have wore out balancer gears in the motor. Not a big problem take it out, not! the same gears run the oil pump. oh and one more thing the 318 perkins is no longer made it was used up to about 1985 but some parts are no longer avalible like the gears that run the balancer Run!!!!!

I agree with Run Away...if it's an easy adjustment then why hasn't he done it...Salesman are salesman...nothing more, nothing less...they don't make any money unless you buy...tires are exspensive...offer him 2500 bucks, and tell him you might come up if he makes that "adjustment". See what he has to say then run.

If a dealer gives you an 'excuse' for a problem, he is lying!! If it was an easy fix, he would have done it, and raised the price. These have had some problems with hydraulics and power steering. Nothing that can't be fixed, but it may be expensive. Wild guess?? He wants $4500 or more. Run Away!

Go to>Link

As for your lift pump, look through the forum for any postings by Big Dean. He's a retired Massey mechanic who can give you some good info.
Most of his postings have a link to his website.

Good luck.
