Lack of power on 44

I have a 1950 44 RC Gas. I can not get any power from the tractor. I have replaced the plugs, wires, cap, rotor. When I pull the throttle to full open, it seems to only deliver about 1/4 of avaliable RPMs. I can go to the carb and manually open it up and thus get all the RPMs I would want. I have tried to adjust the trottle control by turning a turnbuckle in, but now I just flood the tractor starting it. I am wondering if I need to rebuild the carb. When I start it, the choke has to be pulled out 80% of the way to get any effect, then it is full choke. All or nothing. Any help would be great!!

I do plan on checking compression and PRAY that is not the problem.

Thanks

Bob

Check and make sure the throttle and linkage from governor to carb is set properly. With the carb to governor linkage removed set the hand throttle to about two thirds of the way on the throttle quadrant. This will put the governor bellcrank in the wide open position. Then take the governor to carb linkage rod and pull forward to the wide open position.Adjust rod to fit into hole on bellcrank freely and tighten.Make sure clevis end on butterfly arm on carb is not binding. The linkage must move freely. Also check the strength of the throttle spring it could be getting weak. Also check and see if the butterfly shaft is not broken. My 44 had a broken butterfly shaft and it would not get full rpm's.The reason the shaft busted is the linkage was set wrong and it put pressure on it when the throttle was in the full throttle position.

Have you checked the governor operation? If it is not opening the throttle you will have no power or rpm's.

I would check the timing with the static method just to be sure your in the game. If that is ok pull the carb and get yourself a gal. can of carb soak. Take out the adjustment screws and remove the bowl and float. Soak all the parts for 24 hrs.min. I had to do this about 4 times so don't rush it! Any dirt in the carb will not let the tractor run properly. Blow all parts clean and passageways out and inspect the needles and seats for damage. If they look decent fine! Re-assemble the carb and be sure you set the float to proper height. Set adjustment screws ( my 44 runs best with the idle screw open 1/2 round and main open 3-1/4 to 3-1/2 rounds. Fire her up and see what happens! Good Luck. These are just my opinions. Let us know how it goes.

Im not sure but its probably needing a carb. kit, because my 44 wasnt running right and when I adjusted the carb it just flooded. So I got a new carb kit and its fine.

Thanks to you both for the advice. If I do need a carb kit, where do I get one? I have searched this site for one with no luck.
