Perkins A3-152 Question

How often do you folks service the oil sum strainer assy? Every oil change? The screen on mine has come loose. Would it be safe to simply braze back? I fear that a chunk of braze might come loose and get sucked up into the oil pump. Would any of you folks have one of these assy's laying around for sale? The Perkins P/n is 0994574 and the MF number is 731-241-M91.

Thanks!
Bill

Brazing doesn't usually just drop off, so I guess that would be OK.
I cleaned mine when I overhauled the engine. Basically it is there to keep chunks of piston and conrod out of the pump, and it does that just fine. It hadn't been touched before, and I don't intend to touch it later unless oil pressure drops and I have to tend to the oil pump anyway.

How often: Hardly ever, as in tending towards never in my case. Maybe it should be done periodically but the way I see it, strainers in the majority of engines are internal and servicing them means taking the sump off. Cleaning them isn't usually a recommended service procedure. Others may disagree. Maybe a good clean followed by a check after a couple of oil changes would let you see if it needs looked at or can just be left alone? Provided its done properly I'd think brazing (or maybe MIG welding) it back on would be ok.

That's what I think but I do have an open mind to other views on it.
