This just found a 44 standard deisel in a woods in northern mn today that has been sitting for about 5 years. I hooked a chain to it to pull it out of the ruts it was in so i could get it ready to winch up onto the trailerbut when i tugged in it i was stuck in gear. After a few more tugs i went and moved the shifter and it slid into neutral. Then i loaded it up and took it home.Got it off the trailer and rolled it into the shop and gave it a shot of ether and it fired right up. Then i tried to find reverse to back it out,but found every gear but reverse. Now for some reason it stuck in first gear and it wont budge. Is this a common problem?Do masseys get wore on the end of the shifter to cause it to bind?I know ive had some farmalls that that has happened to and it slips behind the slots but i wasnt sure if masseys are noted for the same or not.Any help would be very much appreciated. thanks

Not to hard to fix. under the fuel tank, right side. there is a small cover over the ends of the slide shafts (it's where the detent balls live) the center shaft will be sticking out more than the others just shove it back in, and you'll find neutral. the ball on the eend of the shift lever is warn next time you have it out, just build it up with a welder, and it's ready for the next 50 years!! good luck, don

they like to do this if the pin in the shifter gets wore or the end of the shifter gets wore no big thing. new pin or weld up the end of the shifter. i wish thats all i would have to do to fix me after 50+ years
