I just bought this really clean 165 d Massey. I thought the brakes were loose so I adjusted the adjustment nuts on the linkage. This made the pedal stiff but still no brakes. What do I need to repair them?

ED,

The 165 had dry disk brakes located in the axle housings next to the center housing. You will have to pull the axle housings, not a big job, if you have a floor jack and a hoist of some sort. The disks are probably glazed over and the acutaor plate spring do doubt weak. Most of those parts can be bought after market these days. While you are in there make sure you replace the axle seals. Over the years they have been known to leak transmission fluid out on to the brake disks. That should take care of your brake problem

Good Luck and Happy New Year
