My best friend just bought a MF 85 gas with a 223 cu. in. motor. We were just woundering if this is rare.It even has this on the model and serial number tag. All the service books he has calls for a 242 cu. in. motor. He also was woundering about a wide front end for it.Can one be found and how much? He left me drive it, that thing is a power house.I couldn't belive how updated this tractor was for its age. Thank You, Black Angus.

I have a standard wide front for an 85 or 90. There is a picture of my 90 in tractor photos. I have an 85 bought new, still use it today.

The 223 came in the very first gas models. Not sure the exact date that they switched to the 242. As far as I know, they just increased the bore. I have a 85 with the 242 & some of the engine castings have 223 on them. As far as a wide front, there are a few parts tractors around, but it may be a long search. There were at least 3 different wide fronts, a standard non-adjustable, an adjustable, and a high-arch adjustable ( made for 85s with rear drop boxes on them ). The 85s and Super 90s were powerful tractors, but some parts are very hard to find, and the hydraulics can be very touchy. Your friend may want to change the hydraulic fluid in the near future. Good luck!
