I asked back in November about installing a block heater in my MF35/Perkins diesel. In replies to that post from Ray Southern MD and Hawk, the heater was installed in place of a freeze plug. Ray mentioned an O-ring, but neither mentioned threads and screwing the heater in. I bought the heater last week and it has threads. Did I get the wrong heater? Or, are there actually threads inside the freeze plug bore that you can't see with the plug in? I'm hesitant to start in until I know what I'll find since I don't want my tractor out of service while I chase down - or worse, have to wait for a special order for - the correct heater.

Thanks y'all...Chuck, WA

Chuck you have the worn heater the freeze plug heater does no have threads. It has an O-ring that seals in the block & a long bolt & a cross piece that sets inside to hold it in place.

Chuck,
Big Dean has you squared away on the proper heater type. When you take that unit back to the dealer. Open up the box with the proper one, and check the instruction sheet, to see if you are to put a lubricant around the o-ring. It could save you another trip out. It has been 6 years since I installed mine. I can't remember if they said not to use vasoline or you could use it. It may recommend another lubricant or maybe none at all.
