Y'all...I asked back a ways about a block heater for my MF35/Perkins diesel, and y'all replied that it was easy and went into a freeze plug hole. I went to my Agco dealer and bought the heater they showed as the correct part - turned out it has a 1" major diameter thread that looks like a pipe thread that obviously doesn't go in a freeze plug hole. I posted back to ask again about it and Big Dean said it was the wrong one, and that the right one had what sounded like a molly bolt that went through it into the freeze plug hole to hold it in.

Well, before I take it back and wait for a replacement - I'm sure they don't have it in stock as this was the only one they had - I thought I'd run this by one more time for comment.

The one I bought says on the instruction sheet "Remove the threaded core plug, from the cylinder block," then to screw the heater in. It also mentions that "if field installed cab with hot water heater prevents convenient installation...use block heater...in any accessible 1-1/4" freeze plug hole." That sounds like there's a place for a heater connection, but then that also suggests this may be for a newer or bigger tractor.

Before I take it back, where is the threaded core plug they refer to? Or does that verify that it's the wrong one. I'll use this one if I can, but obviously can get the other if necessary.

Thanks!

I believe this screw type is for the 6 cylinder engine like the MF1100 or 1105. I tried to get one of these screw type dealer said it was discontinued. What is the part # the spprox cost? I have a MF 65 and put in a heater in the freeze plug hole. You can plug it in for a hour or two and you are ready to crank. You could put a timer on ext cord and contorl when it goes on and off. This freeze plug heater does fit nice on 6 cylinder with the larger starter because clearance is very small. Charlie/San Antoino

Hi, I have both types that were bought 15 years ago from the local MF dealer. The 135d has the type that expands into a freeze plug as indicated and my 165d has the plug you remove and screw into the block. Bill

I put a heater in the radiator hose it works great and easy to install this is on my david brown 990 diesel but all you need is the hose size for correct one.

CH & Big Dean...Of course, I knew Big Dean would be right, but just had to run it by one more time now that I had the terminology right. Thanks to both of you. I will go ahead and exchange it.

Around here, it hasn't gotten much below about 20-deg F and next to no snow, but after years of enjoying easy winter starts with my 6.2 diesel Chevy Suburban, and on or two cold mornings even this year when I couldn't start the Massey as early as I wanted, I figured it was worth the $25-30 for the heater.

Now we'll see if my Agco dealer is worth his salt!

Thanks again!

Hey Chuck. There's one on ebay. Search Massey and you can see a picture of it.
Big Deans right( he always is). The plug is 1 1/4 inch diameter, has an O ring and a molly type thing that grabs the wall of the hole in the block.

It's comming in handy with the 100 or so inches of snow we'e gotten this year so far.

Good luck

Chuck the heater they gave you is used in the 4 cylinder engines they have a pipe plug in them that you remove & that heater goes in place of the pipe plug. The 3 cylinder engines do not have the pipe plug you have to use the one that replaces the freeze plug on them.

I have not been able to find a block heater- but I have found a system that seems to work pretty well- I cover the tractor with a tarp and stick my torpedo heater under it- let it warm up the entire tractor while i drink a cup of coffee- it starts right up and everything is warm

Justhave to fool the tractor into thinking it is summer
