Dave, the I&T book says type A automatic transmission fluid for the power steering on the MF-35. The fellows at the local parts house say that Mercon-Dexron III replaces the type A fluid. I used to have to start an old motor whaleboat (daily) when I was a young man in the navy and I remember that we had a rag on a coathanger that we dipped in the fuel tank. We then lit the rag and stuffed it down the air intake while cranking the engine over. Probably get a little flak on this one but it worked for us. It got awful cold out there in the north atlantic in the winter. Had to use steam hoses and fire axes to get the ice off or turn into an iceburg.

Dave... I use Power Steering Fluid because it works a lot better in cold weather.

I would bet a block heater of some sort would help a whole lot. Also you might want to look into a pan heater pad (JC Whitney sells them) and a battery heater blanket (Whitney also sells them).

Then the block will be warm, the battery will have some kick and the engine lube will flow readily into the engine oil pump when she fires.

The real solution for diesels in the winter is to keep them in some sort of shed where they can be kept warm. The colder they get, the more ether and tow ropes are called for.

A call to a Massey dealer should answer your lube question. Probably AGCO's web site can lead you to one.
