Whats the difference between an American vs UK manufactured 135 ? Does owning a UK mfg tractor in the US cause any problems? I asked the owner if the tractor was a UK model and was assured it wasnt. It has the headlites mounted in the grille and the 135 emblem is toward the front of the hood. Serial # is 179128. Help please! Thanks Dave Harley.

I also own a U.K. 135. According to your seriel
number from the list that I have, it is a 1971
model year. The U.K. almost all have the headlights mounted in the grille. Usually they also have the air cleaner stack protruding through
the hood. The hood on a U.K. opens in two areas;
one for the fuel tank and rad cap ; the other for
the battery and backside of the gauges and air cleaner ( stack must be removed to open this section). The U.K. model has a heavier straight box section front axle and most have assist cyls.
on each side for power steering. The american has
wishbone type support arms from the bell housing
to the front axle. The U.K. doesn't. The tach needle direction goes anti-clockwise which is reverse to
the american version. The dash layout is different
also from the american. All the U.K. models I have seen have a 4x2 trans. with American version
having either 3x2, 3x2+multipower, or 4x2.
The U.K. version uses Lucas brand generator and starter but the Delco version off the American will fit. I have changed mine to a more modern
Delco alternator with built in regulator.
I prefer the U.K. over the American for the front
axle strength. I have installed a front pump loader on mine with this in mind.

Also the U.K. version has grease fittings on the
end of the front axle hubs. The American has a aluminum solid cap covering the end of the hub.
Apparently the engines are the same except for exhaust manifold differences but this may be becauseof design in model year. Most U.K. versions
also have two fuel filters where only older american versions have this. The serial numbers
on a U.K. are on the dash next to the throttle lever and are number designations only!

Hi Dave, We have a UK 135 ser#424243-1973? we think. We have had no trouble getting service on the Lucas electrics. The Massey dealer in Vernon B.C. has been able to supply steering parts and hydraulics. Our 135 has the square tubing front axel which is adjustable. Looks pretty skookum. A very good tractor,Perk diesel. Ray-S..

Hi Dave I have worked on both the UK & US build MF135s but not a lot of the UK models about the only difference I found in them was the sheet metal, grill & the power steering. Some UK models do have a lever to apply the park brake I don't remember if the 135s do or not. Some UK models also have a different brake shoe. Part are available for them at your Massey dealer & several of the after market place.

To Big Dean's comments, we might add that the starter and generator/alternator are probably Lucas or CAV rather than Delco on the UK models. Delco units will replace the UK units - with some refitting on the generator/alt, and are cheaper.

I am an agricultural engineer from England-all the 135s I have seen have a seperate lever for the parking brake, headlamps in the grill and lucas electrics(by the way delco electrics are very expensive over here !)Bear in mind 135s were also made in France.A clue might be with the engine number U.K. produced engines will have a number like CE*****U******D for a U.K. produced diesel,or CE*****N******D for a U.S. produced diesel,or did the U.S. tractors get a U.K. produced engine any way?.
