Restoring a 180 MF

I was thinking about buying a 180 and restoring it. Figuring that if it is a worse case scenario and the engine needs rebuilt along with the Multipower and maybe the clutch would it be cost prohibitive? I know that is a very wide open and hard to answer question but I just thought someone might have an idea from similar experiences. I don't know what, if anything, might be wrong with it but I would like to get some kind of idea how expensive it is to fix some of the possible problems.

Okay I went to look at the 180 that the dealer said was in excellent condition. He was asking 4K for it so I was excited. It was excellent if you don't mind a fender rusted all the way thru in two large areas, bent bead areas all over the rear wheels, tires that were shot, seals leaking everywhere on the rear, and the fact that it had been a loader tractor. Guess I'll keep looking.

I spent about 1300 4 years ago putting in both hyd pumps & a MultiPower clutch, then almost 500 last year putting brakes in. Moral of the story, when it's apart, replace EVERYTHING, cause it seems like you have to split the tractor to change oil :<)

Never opened up the 236 Perkins deisel in mine, but it's getting to be time, doesn't use oil but is addicted to the extention cord if its under 40 or so, it's been plugged in since Oct.

Front axle is downright puny for loader work, I generally replace at least the bearings yearly. Outer bearings aren't big enough to hold up a bicycle, let alone a tractor.

All in all, you couldn't pry my 180 out of my hands, but I am looking for a bigger tractor with a 1000rpm PTO.

well if you do all the labor yourself and this is ball park figure about 200 per cylinder give or take a little this should cover crank grinding and cam bearings so your looking at 800 + or - a little. clutch if pressure plate is ok with new disc. and bearing 125.00 +OR - and multipower good ? have not done one in 12+ years. for the engine and clutch you can use after market parts but check around at the prices. have fun doing it the 180 is a sweet tractor
