I'm sure most of you already know this but it surprised me. I stopped at a dealer today to look at an old 180 and while I was there I looked at the equivalent of what used to be a 135 and it said right on the side that it was made by a company that I hadn't heard of in Turkey. I just got back in the truck and left. They might be excellent tractors but it just disgusted me. I was wondering if they make all sizes for Massey?

I probably shouldn't feel the way I do but when I saw this tractor I got the same feeling I get when I go in a motel and it is owned by a person from India who was able to obtain it with a low or no interest loan that the average American born citizen cannot get. Seems like this one world economy benefits every part of the world but ours.

its an english perkins engine with the old castings, etc. now constructed in turkey. Actually the same in most ways to an old 135. My local dealer told me that quality is not a lot differant than when they were made here, lots of little warranty jobs but basicaly sound and reliable.

Were there some MF's (small-mid size) made in Poland recently? I seem to recall a "manufactured in Poland" label on some MF tractor I saw at a show.

I bought some new parts for mine MF165, sealing rings for the multi-power, seal and gaskets. Two of the sealing rings were oversized and didn't fit(turkey made), went to the dealer and bought ones that were made in UK, these fit fine and the quality and finish were better. Will check next time on the source of parts before ordering again.

I was reading a article a couple months ago that the tractor manufacturing plant in UK. was being down sized and was to completely shut down within 2 years. Hard to say where the tractors and parts will be made now.

I had a 231S made by UZEL in Turkey. I didn't like the tractor, but it was well made with better workmanship than most. Go figure.

They are made by a company called "Uzel". I don't know about their quality, but some models, like the 231S, use the same Perkins 3 cylinder diesel as the old MFs and Fergusons of years ago. They also look a whole lot like the old 35s and 135s as far as the drive train goes, not the sheet metal. MF is a global company and have made products in Europe and South America for years. Some tractors come from Britain, France, Turkey, and Brazil.

I wasn't clear on this but this was a new Massey Ferguson not one of the clones of a different name.

You will also find that many replacement parts, even for the older US made MF machines, are now produced in Turkey, that's just the way it is. Would it be any better if they came from France or Germany or heaven forbid China?

I have been in contact with a company in Turkey for replacement parts of Ford and Massy Ferguson parts. The quality seems to be very good. People don't realize alot of parts are being made in India. India is producing a tractor that is exactly like the old 4000. 4000 parts will fit. Ford had a plant there and India bought all the dies and molds. My impression is the seals seem a little thinner than here. Otherwise just as good.
Shame but that is the real world.
