I drove several MF's in my younger days but I never bothered to ask what the "constant pumping" area of the lift control was for. I was told not to keep it in that range but never did know if that was valid or not. Can anyone educate me on this. Also the fact that some of them were so difficult to ease out on the clutch without shaking your teeth out. Seems like the larger one's like the 1100 didn't do it as bad. The 135 to 165's all did it, sometimes worse than others.

If kept in this position, the oil will get very hot and you could possibly burn up the pump. If you ever put it in this position, you will hear a squeal and the engine will also probably bog down a little bit. The others are right, If on a tractor such as a 135, with aftermarket remotes on it, you would put it in constant pumping to supply a constant supply of oil to the remotes, through an external control valve.

Here's another site that explains the pump.

I should also say that constant pumping position is used if you have a diverter valve and are using the lift pump for remote hydraulics.

I have a MF1100 and a MF65. If your teeth are shaking, you might have a clutch problem. A good place to get a MF education is Big Dean's web site.
