MF35 w/Perkins diesel - very slow 3-pt lift and won't stay up without revving engine.

Going to try replacing lift piston rings this weekend. The only other kinds of seals I see in the parts book associated with the 3-pt lift mechanism are o-rings for the riser tube and a few others. Total of 1 each of one, 2 each of one and 3 each of one. No gasket for the cover, etc. My Agco dealer isn't very knowledgeable. Anything else I should be buying for that job? Got a retired tractor mech coming in to do it since I've never gotten into it - will do it myself next time. What's a good estimate on the time it should take to disassemble, replace lift piston rings and other o-rings, reassemble?

Thanks!

O'rings on riser tube(stand pipe) can be replaced without removing lift cover. Best try this first. If you lower oil level by 15 litres approx, remove PTO lever cover, use miror you can see if piston rings need replacement. A small amount of oil leaking is expected as the MF35 uses cast iron rings with end gap. If you do have to replace rings you will probably also find cyl scored. If so you can fit piston & O'ring from MF135 but will have to get cyl bored & honed to larger size. This will give posative seal & greater lift.

Nigel...Thanks! Didn't see this till the job was done. Replaced rings and o-rings on riser. Pulled the cover/lift shaft to get at it all. Seems better, but not as good as it could be, so maybe will be getting back into it. Big Dean says relief valve and control valve, so if we get back into it, will lok at the cylinder more carefully and also replace valves.

Chuck a worn control valve or a bad relief valve could also cause your problen.I have found the control valve to cause this problem more than anything else.

Big Dean...that sounds like a much more expensive and bigger job, but I will look into that.

I keep meaning to buy your CD, but can't seem to remember to buy a money order when I'm in town...will keep trying! :)

Thanks!
