Can someone verify the battery size for my MF50 diesel (Perkins A3-152)? I think it is the same as the MF35 w/ same Perkins diesel.

I believe I need a Group 31 and 950 CCA battery. Is this correct?

Thanks!
Bill

I went into the local part place and told 'em I wanted a battery that was so big the engine would slow down when it started.

I absolutely HATE it when something doesn't start when I need to use it.

Stay away from the $39.95 batteries, and get a good one - Should run you about $75 or so.

In my opinion, you can never get too big of a battery. Just more cca's on those REALLY cold mornings where it just doesn't want to start, and you have to crank for a while. Also make sure it fits in the battery box, that's the only other thing that's important.

I believe the battery recomended by Massey was the 29H. HOWEVER, the 31P-PHD is the exact same size and has 300 more CCA. I replaced all my 29H batteries with 31P batteries, and no more battery problems. Go with the 31P.

Note!! 31 is stud terminal, and 31P is post, you want 31P!!

Thanks! I picked-up a group 31 battery, 950 cranking amps, and it fit nicely in the tractor. BTW, good point on the 31P. The battery I bought has the terminal studs, but they are OK. Next time around, I plan on getting, as you suggest, the post terminal (something I like about lead!) and refitting my MF50 diesel with #1 or #0 gauge battery cables.

Your battery supplier should have a catalogue to ensure your tractor gets the correct size battery.
