Since I am quite interested in Massey Harris and not really interested in Massey Ferguson, do you think that separating them into 2 different forum categorys would make any sense? I realize the M-H forum would be a bit on the small size, however sorting through all that other stuff is beginning to bug me. It probably won't happen but I'd be interested in your comments.

In some ways I agree with you as I have very little interest in MF but have several MH and I too get tired of sorting through stuff to find items of my type. As far as the argument " if I own both which Forum should I check" you just check both like someone that has both AC and Oliver or MM and Case and so on.

But there is the argument of what about overlap tractors during the change over period? I could see a little confussion on where to post or which to go to for info. Also as was stated in one response was if the forum is to small or inactive, it could be cancelled and we certainly don't want that to happen!

I know I am selfish but I would to see it separated on a trial basis and if response is slow, rejoin them.

Roger

I don,t mind having them together as I have both an 81 Massey Harris and a Massey Ferguson 35 3 Cylinder Diesel. This board has,t been as busy lately as the IH and Farmall Board that I also
Monitor. My 2 cents worth.

Your solution is simple, B.C.. Sell that doggone red tractor and go buy a John Deere. They haven't merged with anybody. (not since John merged with Deere anyway) ;)

There was a book written a few years back called "John Deere's Company" or something like that. It was a history of Deere. Apparently in the late 60's or early 70's Deere thought about buying MF but backed away, since the tractors overlapped and MF's implements didn't bring much to the table. Deere at that same time almost merged with Fiat.

So all this consolidation that is going on has been brewing for a long time.

If I could find a decent wide front 3020 that didn't cost an arm and a leg I would buy one.

But I don't need to trade to have the Deere experience. I can just pull a couple of plug wires and buy a can of green paint. And maybe rig up a clutch lever.

LoL, B.C.

In all seriousness though, I kinda like the MH and MF board being united, but it's an interesting question as to whether it's appropriate. We probably ought to include Ferguson, and of course then we'd have to add Ford, er..., New Holland. Oh, and since AGCO now owns MF, we should also include the AGCO sisters and their ancestors White, Oliver, Hart-Parr, Minnie-Mo, Twin City, B.F. Avery, Cockshutt, Deutz, Allis-Chalmers, Rumely.... oh, never mind.

The Pony was built by Massey - Harris - Ferguson in Woodstock Ontario, Canada for the North American Market and also in the Massey Plant in France for the European Market.

Mike,

This could be a good idea but it could also be disasterous. It's a size thing. If a board does not keep busy, members lose interest and the death spiral begins. Even though there are a lot of MF posts to search through, many topics are common to both. I search through many boards but miss a lot of good information shared on the boards that I don't frequent too often.

The other extreme is also true. If a board is way too busy, I can't sift through all the posts to find answers to my questions or keep up with all the good information that's being shared.

It's Kim's job as site administrator to keep the boards going and split them when it makes sense. Drop her a line and make the suggestion. She needs to know our desires too. From her perspective of traffic, she can make a good decision that will keep the good stuff flowing.
