Wheel Bearing Questions

I pulled the front wheel hubs on my MF50 to clean and grease the bearings and found that the seals and bearings are not in the best shape. Bearings are pitted and scoured and the seal hardly held itself in place. My parts list shows only MF part numbers. The outer bearing (the smaller of the two) is a Timken 0967, the inner bearing is a Bower 15123 (it may read 1S125) and the seal is a National 6336.

I have heard of Timken bearings, but not the National or Bower brand name. Has anyone else? I would not think that MF would have any custom bearings, etc on a front wheel.

BTW, I will be replacing the races too.

Any advice, tips, info, etc., would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Bill

I was able to find an aftermarket kit to replace the bearings and seals on the front of my MF50. There is a MF part number for this kit. It is 835964M91. The box the kit came showed it would fit the following tractors: TE20, TO20, TO30, T035, MF35, MF40 (most likely an F40), MF50 AND MF65 STD.

The kit replaces the following:
Seal: National 6336 (MF p/n 180008M1)
Cups: 15245 & 09195 (both Timken)
Bearings: 15123 (Bower) & 0967 (Timken)

The Timken and Bower numbers are the same.
The inside cone is 15123 inside cup is 15245
The outside cone is 9067 outside cup is 9195.
National is one of, if not the biggest seal manufacter. Should be no problem crossing that seal number.

Bower is a name-brand bearing, and I think in the case of your wheel bearings, the Bower # would be identical to a Timken number.
National oil seal is a unit of Federal Mogul, and along with C/R (Chicago Rawhide), is a major US supplier of seals.

A local industrial bearing supply house, or auto supply, such as NAPA, should be able to fix you right up.
