Hello everyone, my name is Adam, and I'm new to this board, and Massey’s too. I just got a Massey 65 for what I though was (and for the most part still do...) a good deal. However the 65 has some problems, and it seems like every time I turn around one more shows up. I'm starting to lose that loving feeling... I will post the specific problems on a few following posts so that the archive searches work better for others. This evening, I read through over 500 posts and archives. And am starting to get an idea of a few of the things ahead. (It's now 11:52pm EST!) Really, I just wanted to start with this post to say hello to everyone and thank Big Dean for all of his insights and to introduce myself as one who will learn from all of this, and then one day, share with others. I have a very strong background with antique and vintage garden tractors (Bantam, Panzer, and David Bradley’s, to name a few) and I also have a 2N. I was very excited about the MF 65, but when I saw a few things not working as well as they could, and headed up to the local Massey dealership to order a shop manual, I was laughed at, and then told "You got an old tractor, with the worst, and most hazardous steering. You should just sell it to the next guy, and let them learn, and they'll sell it, and so on. It will just steer drastically on there own" What???? A dealer saying that??? Yikes!!!! So I'm posting here. Hopefully some good friends will be made. Others, a big thanks ahead of time. At present, the shop manual is not in. If someone could let me know how many drain plugs there are to drain the hydraulic fluid out of the tractor (has water in it) and where the fill plug is located, that would be great. Also, the tractor is a '58 gas, with a front pump 245? Massey? loader, I had wanted to know where the fill and check plug was for that. (Left frame rail???) More problems to follow... Thanks everybody, I look forward to being a member of your community
Adam
PS Any other things you think I should know right away, don't hesitate to reply!!! Thx

Adam the water in the hydraulic system most likley got in at the rubber boots that go over the shift levers, your dealer should have them, the fill plug is to the left side of the shifter & forward, there is a dipstick in the side of the housing below the lift lever to check hydraulic fluid. The transmition & rearend are as one on most Massey Fergusons look down low for drain plug.Hop this helps

Hey Adam,
I too am new to the MF group and new to their fine tractors. I purchased a 1969 MF40 a couple of weeks ago and had a similar experience from a vintage mechanic in my area. He "laughed" at me when I told him what I bought. I have the F and R shuttle transmission in my industrial model. I can only equate this to my experience with autos since I have owned over 75 in the last 30 years, it's the same deal some guys are Chevy freaks, Ford freaks, etc. I personally enjoy some of each and dislike some of each. Just enjoy what you have, scour for the best deals and work your new toy until it's time for an upgrade, a bigger, newer or not one at all. There's plenty of folks out there that are runnin a tractor a lot less nice and featured than ours and gettin by just fine. Enjoy it and have a great Massey Ferguson Day!! Welcome aboard.
