I have purchased a 1956 ferguson 40 n/f tractor which is painted the wrong colors. I believe the correct colors are light cream hood, fenders with a green tinted body and wheels. I am in need of a book which has pictures so that I can paint the tractor the proper colors. also how rare is this tractor? It is the first n/f 40 Ferguson I have seen. I have seen wide front utility type 40's before. The tractor does seem to be complete , the only thing wrong is the front decal with the number 40 has some of the chrome outline missing. the tractor has power steering and power spread rear wheels. any help would be appreciated , our email address is coatts@hesenergy.net Thanks in advance.

You can order from this outfit in the UK. The chrome piece for the front hood air intake is identical to the UK-produced MF 65.

Don't have all your answers, but this transition
model also appeared with chrome 40 letters on the
nose, about where the MF emblem was on the later
50 row crop version. The letters may have been used one year. The Y.T. tractor photos probably
have the early paint scheme. Narrow front model tractors faded with the fifties decade, once
adjustable wide front ends became more popular.
Common for 40's to be 'updated' with the MF colors
and MF 50 decals, then one notices '40' grill.
