Have a 1960 35 massey ferguson which I'm restoring to original (as much as possible) There is no evidence of paint of any colour on the wheels or rims, Massey dealer told me the wheels are to be red with grey rims. I then talked to the original owner and he told me there was never any red on the wheels ---wheels and rims were all grey. What is the proper colour-- was there a time when colours of 35 massy changed? I am told that the serial # show this an early 1960. Any suggestions? Thanks!!!!

Rob, Hamish is right, and I think, as you probably realise by now, it depends where your tractor was built as to what colour it should be. Photographs in Allan T Condie's book, Massey Ferguson 1958-82 clearly show a Detroit built 35 with all red front wheels and red centres with silver rims on the rear, but these are PAVT wheels so standard wheels may have been different. The book also suggests that the main body was metallic grey. Can any one tell me though where Coventry built tractors were sold in North America?, why?, and were they priced differently to Detroit ones?, as they are essentially the same tractor.
Cheers, Ali.

All U.K. MF 35's had grey wheels. The 100 series MF tractors had red wheel centers with silver rims up to spring of 1967 when they changed to all silver.
It may be that USA tractors had different wheel colours, I think I have seen photos of USA 35s with red and silver wheels.

Ali fae Crieff seems to be the specialist in thsi subject. Seems to have been a change very early on in the 100 series tractors. I think all MF35s would be grey wheels rim and centre.

I have a 1960 also, and from what I've seen, the rear hubs were red, the rear rims silver. The front rims were all red, although a lot of people paint the outside rim silver. I plan to make my front wheels all red, when I finally but new tires on them. Good Luck.
