I have a 3 cyl. gas Perkins 135 that while mowing recently began to leak coolant. I can't see where it is coming from for the fan blowing it, but did tighten hose clamps and see no evident leaks there. It appears to drip from behind the fan pully, on the water pump side. I refilled the radiator and it runs and cools fines, but still leaks. I figure it might be a head gasket, but wanted an expert opinion.

Allen, I have a 135 diesel that had a similar occurence. It is the water pump. It has a weep hole on the underside behind the pulley. I thought my hoses were leaking but they were new and tightening them didn't help. Finally figured it out. pump cost 74.00 at the local MF dealer and it will take a new back plate for the pump and sealant. Cost you another 8.00 or so. I am assuming that the Perkins gas has the same pump set up as the diesel version. Hope this helps.

If you can get the parts, the pumps are rebuildable. Instructions are in the service manual.

My 135 diesel water pump leaks also. Have looked at the parts manual and noticed that you can buy seal, cermaic collar, impeller , and even a shaft. However without being able to rebush the housing, how could you expect to have a decent rebuild job. Looks to me the thing to do is purchase the whole pump. I am told by my MF dealer that it is a NEW pump, and not rebuilt. Like Richard says it is about 75 bucks. Going to ride mine for a while. Good luck.

It was the water pump. I recently changed the alternator and think I got the belt too tight causing the problem. Thanks for the help and advice.
