Clutch Adjustment Question

Sorry for the repost - but I need a bit of info.

When adjusting the clutch on a MF 35 or 50, the IT manual shows several adjustment "gages" for clearances, etc. They have drawings of these that one can make.

My question is - are these tools available to purchase? Are you using these tools?

Thanks in advance,
Bill

I just went through this rat's nest myself: a number of different clutches were used over the year's, Dean told me as many as 5 different sets of gauges are out there. My clutch LOOKED identical to the one in the IT manual, but no dice...money spent on having a gauge machined was wasted. The PTO disk travel limiting bolts can be done with feeler gauges, Dean's reccomendation for the travel arm bolts is to have about 3 threads showing below the arm and then measure to make sure they're all the same. The pilot tool for aligning all the disks when bolting the clutch back up to the flywheel seemed indispensible to me, but someone may have an ingenius way around having one.

Thanks for the advice. I am going to start with the aligning tool and see how it goes.

Big Dean has some great tips on his site. I'm not aware that they can be purchased. I made mine from some scraps of plexiglas. Also, the manual calls for .090 clearance, Big Dean says .070 works better, and he's right, as usual.

Plexiglass is a good idea! Much easier to work (at least in my basement) than steel!

Thanks,
Bill

I used a normal feeler gauge to set mine - maybe ask Big Dean Austin.

I've got them, but can you purchase these tools and where?

Thanks,
