Help...I have acquired a massey harris 44 or at least thats what I think based on the casting date under the rear casting which says 1951,how ever on the front hood are 444 decals, I did'nt think M.H. made 444 untill 1954 or so....which is it? Is there an easy way to tell with out scrap ing paint to find a serial no. thanks .bob

Quick check of PTO helps, 44 had high mount PTO with PTO shift lever back left of main transmission cover. 444 has low mount PTO with shift lever at back left corner of rearend housing cover

The 444s were built from '56 -'58. Also they have a larger gearbox. How many gears does your tractor have? Is it the Continental 277 engine?
