Air in fuel line question

I have a MF 35 diesel that always starts and runs without a hesitation. I have not used the tractor for about 4 weeks and it has been kept in a shop with a full tank of fuel. Today I fired it up to pull some brush away from an area we are clearing for a flower bed. It started right up and slowly cruised to the brush pile (warm up of about 5 minutes) when I pulled the first piece of brush out, which placed no load on the tractor, it died and just would not start. I sounded like it was out of fuel. No rough running before hand, it just quit and would not start.

Does this sound like air in the line? It was getting dark so I only had time to open the upper vent plug on the injection pump which had some air upon opening but ran freely after manually pumping at the primary pump lever but it still wouldn't start. Should I just go to the lower vent plug and then to the fuel pressure lines or do I probably have some other type of problem?

Thanks for any suggestions. I have been spoiled by this tractor and I am now clueless.

Bob,
I would just go ahead and bleed them down in order, I do this every spring when I PM my 135. It can't hurt, hope she cranks for you.

I bled all the lines from tank to injector lines and gave it a very small mini-blast of starting fluid and Hurray!!!! She fired right up! Ran it for about 1/2 hour and tried it multiple times afterward and she cranked up every time.

Have you ever replaced that metal bird's nest in the oil bath air cleaner? Mine looks pretty clogged and I thought I would try cleaning it or just replacing it.

When's the last time you changed your
primary fuel filter ?

I had this problem on my 165 periodically until I changed all the fuel filters...

Bob... Just take it out and wash it in solvent.

Does that metal bird's nest on the inside of the air cleaner just pull out of the cover?

Take the complete air filter assembly off of the tractor. On the bottom side is an assembly made out of real light metal that holds the wire mesh in. It snaps out and in. Be carefull when taking this out so you don't distort it. The roll of wire mesh will slip out then. I wouldn't unroll it if you didn't have to. You won't believe how much better your tractor will run (if its really pluged) after you clean it.... It's a messy job....
