I went to the West Virginia Stage fair this morning and watched an antique tractor pull. Really interesting. But I saw NO Massey Ferguson, Ferguson and only one Massy Harris tractor in the pulls! What gives?

I've never seen so many Farmalls, Deere, Olivers, Case and A/C's. I saw one 8N and one Ford 600.

What is the definition of antique? Pre-1960?

Another thing that surprised me is how well these old tractors kept their front end on the ground. I have only experienced the front end lifting up with a pull (dragging a rock or log out of the way on the farm) on a Ford 3000. My MF50 has kept it's front end down so far. I have never really used a MF35, but I have thought that the reason MF built a MF50 (even thought it is the same hp as the MF35) in addition to the more powerfull MF65 is that the longer wheelbase and heaver front end has the effect of keeping the front end down. Knock on wood, my MF50 seems to be really stable.

So what do you think? Why no MF's at the pulls?

Thanks!
Bill

There aren't many Masseys in the pulls because we're all still using them..... ..... (-:

I agree 100%. I can't take mine to a pull because I'm still too busy using it. As a matter of fact, I haven't got around to restoring it for the same reason. I went to a show 2 miles from home, last year with Masseys as the featured tractor there was 20-25 there. This year there was only 1 little gray fergie there.

Not quite an antique, but There was an 1150 pulling. Seen it at our local pull and it had lots of power, but headed out of bounds and shut it down. Seen it again at Louisville farm machinery show in lineup, wasn't around to see it pull again.

I attend 5 to 6 shows a year but very seldom see any Masseys and usually 1 or 2 Fords. I take my "Gray" Pony to shows and it is usually the only Massey.

well that is a good question? what i see is the area some are heavy IHC or JD thats because of the old dealers that sold them and the most important is after market parts to build engins just is not much in after market for M-H, FERGUSON or MASSEY FERGUSON. i pull in wi. and on sat. we pulled and we had 10 to 15 old fergusons and M-H and most placed in the top 3 with 5 or 6 taking first. i pulled my TO-20 for the first time and came in 4th in the 3000 and 3500 lb.class out of 10 and 12 and my 44 special came in 3rd and 4th. in 6000 and 7000 out of 11 and 10 we are out pulling you just have to go to the right area and the right pulls
