My book shows a 260 CI 44 Special Diesel cam part number is 1-006-659-M1 and a 277 CI 444 diesel cam part number is 1-006-659-M1 but a 277 CI 444 gas cam part number is 760-659-M1. I don't have a 44 parts book to know if a 44D and the 44 special D are the same number. A 44 Special Diesel used the 260 engine but the 44 Special gas used the 277 engine. You need to do more checking but it looks doubtful.

Absolutely not. The the different operating principles of gas and diesel require racially different valve timing, lift and duration. NEVER NEVER NEVER interchange them, even if they look the same

Full agreement here, with Guy. If a true diesel
cam, it would not even have machined drive grooves
in the center journal, to turn the distributor gear. Playing cross-match on early diesels & late
gas, plus 260 verses 277, leads to ruined good
parts.
