I have to chance to purchase a 44-S and would like to know what the S or SPECIAL has on it that a non -S would not. This is the 4 cyl it runs. It has new tires is not restored and very rusty. No three point, draw bar only. Price is $1600 is this in the ballpark. Any help on pricing or parts availability would be appreciated. Thanks Art

check the ser.no. to make sure it's a 44 special. the specials had live PTO per say with a hand clutch that stopped the froward movement of tractor that is on the right side it's a lever about 2.5 ft. long next to the right brake. also a special will have a 277 engine in it.is it a RC or std.this will make a difference as to price but 16 is not out of line

Having a live PTO clutch does not designate a 44
Special, 44's had this option, in 1950. Added confusion with S/N's, an "S" in the number would
translate to standard(low profile, 30" rear whls,
fixed tread width, big ugly fenders). Special
S/N's are the last five, beginning with 50,001.
The genuine workhorse brute is the Row Crop model,
38" rear wheels. One of the absolute best tractors
built. A long runner, if not abused. Good luck.
