Can anyone recommend what type of motor oil I should use in a 71 MF 165 dsl. The guy I bought it from used Havolene 30 Heavy Duty, but a friend said I sould use "Rotella Oil" supposely made for dsl motors. I have never heard of this??? Are these oils suppose to be detergent or non-detergent???? Anyoune with some advice??? Thanks

If you want to see a real decrease in engine noise and better fuel mileage change your diesel over to AMSOIL 15w40 Synthetic Heavy Duty Diesel and Marine Oil. I used Rotella before changing. You would have to see and heard the results to believe the differents. Plus it is extended drain. I use synthetic in everything I own weedeaters, lawnmowers, truck and car and my 4 garden pulling tractors. Just my opinion on the oil subject.

Rotella is made by Shell. You can buy it by the gallon at most any auto parts store like Advance, and also at most tractor supply stores. The most popular weight is 15-W-40 in my area.
